A message from 1930

Originally written in 2007, my poem about this particular photograph, that was taken in 1930. For me it is a priiceless posession and I look at it very often. My ancestors. They have been through it all. They had the courage. My great grandparents are in this photo and so is my grandma who was and is my true soulsister. She is is standing in front, between her mother and father :) (man with the hat and lady with the baby)

You are/were channeling your thoughts at that 'time', cause I feel what you feel!

A message from 1930

It is the photograph
with decorative edges, from forgotten days,
where you pose in a brown colored mist
that seems to emphasize serenity on your face

We have never encountered one another,
but how our gaze meets here, in this familiar way,
we surely know each other

Your eyes seem to warn me silently
through time and space,
captured here for eternity

Like actors from forgotten days
patiently waiting for their scene,
the photographer nods and gives his praise

On that photograph
with the decorative edges where you pose
near that specific carpet on the wall
for the photographer
like a most elegant lady
or perhaps
gazing at someone
who watches, intentionally

Your eyes seem to silently warn me
but urgently nonetheless
The others who pose
do not take notice of your eyes
and neither does the little girl
with the same expression on her face
She is still too small to be my grandma
although we meet through time and space

It is a photograph from the year 1930
where you silently send a message
into the future, where your eyes reveal
that you recognize yourself in me
Almost a century between us,
but our eyes meet,
through the brown colored mist
So urgently
Time does not exist
