Small acts of kindness and appreciation :)

When I was in secondary school I participated in a pen pal project to improve my language skills.
I received a few letters from a French speaking boy from Morocco. More than his letters, his envelopes intrigued me, or better: what he wrote on them.

He would always write these words in the left corner of the envelope:

~MERCI FACTEUR~

Meaning, THANK YOU MAILMAN.

I had never seen anyone write this on an envelope and I was fascinated by it! I loved the small act of
kindness, that little attention, the appreciation for the mailman who delivers your letter, no matter how much rain, or how hot the sun. We never think of it. Oh, how much we have FORGOTTEN in this world....How UNAWARE we are.

Just the small, incredibly simple acts, can LIFT sinking hearts in this world, I thought.

I started doing it myself.
Every time I would send a letter to my grandma, I would write in the left corner of the envelope:

~HVALA POSTARE~

In Serbian.

I remember a phone conversation with my grandma. She told me she had received one of my letters, brought to her by her mailman, who climbed up to the third floor of the flat where she lived.
She said he had a huge smile on his face when he mentioned the comment on the envelope. He said he felt really appreciated and it made his day!
And it made mine too! From such a simple thing!

This was years ago and I thought of it again. This was something Amelie would do! (watch “Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain”)

I love true politeness, courtesy, the heart-to-heart connection between people you ‘don’t know’!
And where did it go? Oh, how we need it in this realm!

Small acts of kindness and appreciation to lift hearts and make them sing and glow :)

So many ideas….and what better time to start then…NOW!

:)
